Let’s Go!
Mom, Author, Speaker.
While Denisha Alphonse attributes her desires to write from the encouragement of her grandfather as a child, her passion grew from writing a paper on Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye in college. Denisha graduated from Mercy College with a B.A. in Communications in NY.
After the passing of her son at six months old due to his illness in 2007, Denisha wanted nothing more than to be a great mother to her two boys born in 2010 and 2013. She realized that she didn’t want her kids to have the feelings of shoulda, coulda, woulda as she felt not taking sound advice from prominent adults in her life.
Another realization came when trying to communicate with the kids through their divided attention and unwillingness to listen. Denisha thought she really wanted to say something instead of yelling at them. She noticed that the catchphrase “We Don’t Cry, We Try” made their eyes divert to her and she could start the conversation of how we were going to move forward from their breakdown. Denisha always wanted to teach but decided that writing motivational books and incorporating encouragement with a rhyming format could be her way of teaching the world!
